Brazil in Cannes: Every time the country shone at the festival
One of the most important cinematic events in the world, the 78th Cannes Film Festival began this Tuesday (13/5), in the French city that names the show. Represented this year by Kleber Mendonça Filho with the film The Secret Agent, Brazil has been at the competitive show on several occasions and, in some, left the event with the Golden Palm, a maximum ceremony award. The first time Brazil took a festival statuette was in 1953 – when there was still the golden palm – with the cangaceiro, by Lima Barretoin a category that no longer exists, titled Best Adventure Movie, according to a survey by Oddspedia. The production also opened the trophy gallery of our country when it comes to international prize.
The only palm of gold in Brazilian cinema was won in 1962, with the payer of promises, by Anselmo Duarte. The production tells the trajectory of Christian Zé do Donu (Leonardo Vilar), seeking to fulfill a promise to enter the church of Santa Barbara with the cross that carries from the interior of the Bahian will to Salvador, after his donkey was cured of an infection.
