After entering testing period in mid-December, TaleWorlds announced this Thursday (6) the release of the 1.7.0 update for Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord. In addition to the inclusion of an official Brazilian Portuguese translation, the game finally had the new “battle ground” system added.
The new system that had been announced by TaleWorlds in August 2021 was, in my view, one of the biggest and most impactful changes that Bannerlord could receive. Where before the game's battles took place on “random” maps, it now takes into account the terrain, region and position of the clash. That is, that party of battling anywhere and hoping for a victory is over.
Another noticeable change from the 1.7.0 update is the AI improvements in siege battles. Siege battles have been a criticized point since the beginning of Bannerlord's early access period. First because of the order system that was confusing and second because of the AI not getting along very well with stairs or even going through gates. Version 1.7.0 fixes some of this, but it doesn't entirely eliminate possible bugs. I did three siege battles and although assigning orders is easier, there is still the traditional “push and push” at the exit of stairs and I saw some of my troops throw themselves off the walls, at least it was funny.
From what little I've played from version 1.7.0 and previous betas, I believe Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is finally starting to become the “sequel” that many have been waiting for. Most memory issues have been fixed, those with a weaker computer can now try to run it with better visuals thanks to optimizations in multiple areas (texture streaming, load time, etc).
Plus, if you haven't played Bannerlord for a long time, it's worth revisiting. Dozens of skills have been added or rebalanced, the system of combat companions and character negotiation has been revised, the game has new quests for those who play in single-player mode. Plus, it already has the good old “sandbox” mode where your imagination or rather – the amount of land you can take – is your limit.
The full list of changes is available on the TaleWorlds website ; I recommend reading both version 1.7.0 and previous versions to get a better sense of how the game is at the moment.
