It all starts in the early 1970s. Son of Mexican immigrants and resident of Detroit (USA), Sixto had a dream of building a career in music. He release two albums: Cold Fact in 1970 and Coming from Reality in 1971. Without giving up the American music industry, Sixto abandoned the dream and was looking for other occupations to survive. From the stage and studios, he went to the construction area. He graduated in philosophy from Wayne University and unsuccessfully tried to be elected in political positions such as councilor, mayor and even his home senator, Michigan. Almost three decades after the failure of the two albums released, his trajectory would once again change direction with the advent of the internet.
What he did not know is that the label had sent copies of albums to foreign markets such as Australia and New Zealand. But it was in South Africa that his music transcended the boundaries of entertainment. Sugarman, part of the Cold Fact, which spoke of the oppression suffered by the American workers, eventually fell like a glove for South Africans opposed to the apartheid regime-a system of institutionalized racial segregation in the country. Since there was no internet at that time and Sixto had never appeared to the lovers of his work, many even believed that the singer and songwriter had died. There were even rumors that he had committed suicide.
According to the website dedicated to the life and career of Sixto in August 1997, Stephen “Sugar” Segerman created a website, called The Great Rodriguez Hunt (the great hunt for Rodriguez), with the intention of finding any information about the mysterious American musician famous for the album Cold Fact.
