MTV VMAs 2021: Host, Performers, and Live Stream?

The MTV Video Music Awards 2021 are just around the corner! With Doja Cat set to emcee this year’s celebrations, you can bet we’ll be tuned in to watch this year’s must-see event, which takes place on Sunday, September 12.

After MTV announced in June that the VMAs would return to a single, live venue, the Moon Man statues will be awarded at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. “Thanks to increased safety measures, the 2021 show is looking to center live entertainment once again, just as concerts return across the United States,” MTV said in a statement.

The network went on to say that they’re working with Barclays Center, as well as state and local officials, to “implement best practices and execute a screen-breaking spectacle that brings together music fans from all over the world, with the health and safety of our artists, fans, staff, and partners remaining the No. 1 priority.”

MTV VMAs Host 2021 Host

Keke Palmer was the host for last year event, MTV took its time announcing the host for 2021. In fact, before Doja Cat was hired, it appeared that this year’s event might not have a host at all, which would not be unprecedented: The show has gone on without a host seven times since its beginning in 1984, including four times since 2013.

Doja Cat will be presenting her first award show, according to Variety, but she is no stranger to the VMAs: She received the night’s Best New Artist award in 2020, and she also gave a fiery performance of her singles “Like That” and “Say So.”

Performers for MTV VMAs

To begin with, Doja Cat isn’t just hosting; she’ll also be performing! While Oz is the most recent addition to this year’s long list of VMAs performers, there will be a slew of other names to keep an eye on on the Barclays Center stage.

Shawn Mendes will reportedly perform his current single “Summer of Love” with Tainy, his collaborator on the track, and Twenty One Pilots will perform “Saturday” off their next album Scaled and Icy in May 2021. Meanwhile, Chlöe (of Chloe x Halle) is set to perform her first solo single, “Have Mercy.”

Camila Cabello, Mendes’ longstanding girlfriend, was revealed as one of the event’s initial batch of performers on Aug. 18. She’ll perform “Don’t Go Yet,” a new song off her upcoming album Familia. Meanwhile, Lorde is expected to perform a track from her recently released album Solar Power, while Machine Gun Kelly will play the world premiere of his latest single, “papercuts,” in his first-ever VMAs performance. Olivia Rodrigo, a first-time VMAs performer, was also announced as part of the first wave of performers, as was Lil Nas X, who will perform his new track “Industry Baby” alongside Jack Harlow.

Is it still insufficient? On the official list of performers are Alicia Keys, Justin Bieber, Kacey Musgraves, The Kid LAROI, Ozuna, and Swae Lee. Ozuna has promised a mystery collaborator for his concert, while Kid LAROI will perform his song “Stay.” He just stated in Spanish on Instagram, “This Sunday will be spectacular.”

Last but not least, Dave Grohl’s legendary rock band Foo Fighters will not only perform, but will also be honoured with the VMAs’ first-ever Global Icon Award.

MTV VMAs Nominees

On August 11, the nominees for the 2021 VMAs were announced. Justin Bieber and Megan Thee Stallion lead the pack with seven and six nominations, respectively. (She had more song and video entries than any other artist on the leading ballot.) They’re followed by Doja Cat, Lil Nas X, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Drake, Giveon, and BTS, all of whom have been nominated five times.

How to Watch MTV VMAs in the USA, UK and India?

On Sunday, September 12 at 8 p.m. ET, the VMAs will telecast. All ViacomCBS networks, including MTV (obviously), MTV2, VH1, Comedy Central, and The CW, should broadcast the show.
