The Golden Palm of the 2025 Cannes Festival was delivered this Saturday (24/5) to the movie A Simple Accident, by Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi. Recognized for works such as the Branco Balloon (1995), this is not a movie (2011) and Taxi (2015), Panahi is one of the main names of contemporary Iranian cinema – and also a constant target of repression in his country. He has already been arrested on accusations of “advertising against the system” and even started a hunger strike during his detention, which lasted almost seven months.
