Salvador hosts the first edition of the Lusoteropolitana Festival, a multi-artistic meeting that brings together productions from Brazil and Portugal and takes place from January 6th to 30th, with in-person and online activities, aimed at adults and children. The festival has artistic and educational actions that promote the local scene and provide an exchange with Portuguese culture. The presentations will take place at Teatro Sesi Rio Vermelho.
Artists from both countries will perform scenic presentations, concerts, lectures, conversation circles, performances, dramatic readings, book launches and workshops on a schedule from Wednesday to Sunday, throughout the month. The project is signed by Fabio Vidal, from Sirius Teatro Territory; João Guisande, from Vixe Cia de Teatro; Maria Clara Mendes and Daniela Chávez, from Cia de Teatro Improviso Salvador, co-produced by Sesi and Sesc.
One of the project's curators, Fabio Vidal says that, at this first moment, the festival articulates bridges between Brazil and Portugal with activities in literature, theater, performances, lectures, discussions and there is a great expectation to receive the public in these activities.
"The total expectation and anxiety of resuming the scene, both mine, who perform the show Seu Bomfim on the weekend, and the countless other artists and people involved in the festival, to be able to return to this scene in person. We have been working for more than three months to make this scene possible. proposal in reality," said Vidal.
To open the in-person program, on the 6th and 7th, the writer Alex Simões presents a scenic performance about Waly Salomão, entitled “A Cappella de Waly”, in addition to relaunching his books Assim na Terra Como na Selfie and No Meu Corpo o Canto. On the 8th and 9th, Saturday and Sunday, at 8 pm, Fabio Vidal presents at Teatro Sesi Rio Vermelho, the show Seu Bomfim, which completes 22 years of circulation.

The children's audience will also be contemplated on all weekends, with a presentation of A Hora do Recreio, by Cia Gente de Teatro da Bahia, always on Saturdays and Sundays, at 4 pm.
Between the 14th and the 16th, at 8 pm, the project will bring to the public the Portuguese presentation Adeus Sofia – Apology for a New Eden, by Simão Barros, from Carb – Cooperativa Artística da Raia Beira. Portuguese plastic artist Luiz Canário will perform the performance De Profundis – The Cities of them in Suspended on the 19th, at 5 pm, on the Toca Raul Stage, next to Teatro Sesi Rio Vermelho.
The program also features four different artistic workshops in physical theater, bases of improvisation, improvised narratives and improvised directing, all free of charge, which will be held at Teatro Sesc Pelourinho. The online workshop Self-direction in Improvisation” with Luana Proença will be broadcast through the Zoom platform. All workshops are free and for people over 14 years old.
On the 20th, at 4 pm, teacher Lícia Beltrão will give the lecture What Wants, What Can This Language, about the Portuguese language, with free entry and online broadcast on Teatro Sesi Rio Vermelho's YouTube channel. The program continues with a conversation on the 27th, at 4 pm, to discuss cultural production between Portugal and Brazil with Marco Graça, Simão Barros and Selma Santos, as well as two dramatic readings and two book launches by Bahian authors Tiago D Oliveira and Ederval Fernandes.
Last week, on the 29th and 30th, the show À Flor da Pele, by Cia Improviso Salvador, already performed in Portugal, will complete the festival's program. To end the Lusoteropolitana on Sunday (30), at 9 pm, Guigga and Tarcísio Santos will take to the public the show Mar Sobre Pedra, at the Varanda do Teatro Sesi Rio Vermelho.
