I'm still unsure whether Century: Age of Ashes is the biggest surprise or biggest disappointment of the year for me. The PVP dragon game released in December on Steam has immense potential, but it looks like it's not quite right yet. At least I have a “motivation” to play it a little longer, the “Frost &Fury” event – which runs until January 2nd.
The event adds a new free for all game mode that is pure chaos. In short 8 players fight to see who is at the top of the leaderboard. However, the more kills you have, the greater the reward if you get killed. Keep yourself alive long enough and you will be rewarded with a bonus and a total removal of the reward.
Those who complete the challenges present during the event will receive a new armor and a new emblem – both cosmetics since Century: Age of Ashes does not have any items that give advantages in PVP.
I've enjoyed this mode more than the standard Century: Age of Ashes modes. Standard modes require a little too much coordination between teams and I still haven't been able to convince any of my friends or friends to play with me.
I'll be sad when the event ends in January, as I'll have to revert back to the normal modes and “basic” classes from Century: Age of Ashes. In this aspect Playwing has to be smart, as the classes are not that different and the current maps are not very inspired.
This is the problem with releasing games at the end of the year, something that I always warn developers: If it's to release, it must have “content” — even more so if we talk about PVP — to last a long time. Daily and weekly challenges are just a big slap in the face.
Well, let's see how Century: Age of Ashes fares in 2022 and whether the promises of new maps and classes come to pass. As I said, the potential is there, Playwing just needs to take advantage of it.
