Thanks to the "Game Trials" program, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will be able to play Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker for free, but for a limited time. Originally released in 2014 for Wii U, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker was born as an extension of Super Mario 3D World . The game was re-released in 2018 on Nintendo Switch , with new features for Joy-Con controllers and four all-new missions. There is even an expansion, called Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker – Special Episode , which adds more levels and challenges.

In the game, the player must solve the puzzles of each level to find a golden star and three diamonds. Toad and Toadette have special items and abilities that will help them in the challenges. In addition to the stages, the game also offers boss battles. It is possible to play alone or in local co-op mode for two people.
